Fair Train is a charity founded in 2009 and now widely regarded as the UK’s Work Experience expert, working to ensure that quality is at the heart of the UK’s workforce development through the promotion of all forms of high quality work-based learning. This includes traditional school work experience for Year 10/12 pupils, placements for students aged 16+ (e.g. for study programmes and T-Level industry placements), traineeships, internships, apprenticeships and volunteering.

About Fair Train

Fair Train was created by a group of people from the Voluntary and Community Sector to address the lack of availability and uptake of apprenticeships in the sector. The group’s members passionately believed that apprenticeships were of critical importance to the sector's workforce development. Their initiative to promote apprenticeships gathered momentum and, before long, Fair Train became the Group Training Association (GTA) for the Voluntary and Community Sector.

Fair Train’s Work Experience Quality Standard

Fair Train’s Work Experience Quality Standard was developed in association with a wide range of employers and learning/training providers and leading national organisations, including DFE, Ofsted, TUC, Association of Colleges, Association of Employment and Learning Providers and National Apprenticeships Service.

It encompasses both the frameworks for work-based learning and the kite mark that demonstrates the quality of the provision by accredited organisations. The standard is now widely recognised and respected for its thoroughness and independence, and its reputation is maintained through rigorous audits. 

The standard has now been adopted by more than 400 organisations of all sizes and types in all sectors throughout the country. They range from major corporations to small niche firms, schools and colleges and large public bodies: i.e. organisations in every sector and throughout the UK.
